relax and enjoy.

Speaker 2:

Hello, hello and welcome to another episode of the Tea with Tina podcast. Today we're chatting about a fun little trendy term I stumbled upon in the fitness realm and it got me kind of excited. It's called soft girl workouts, soft girl workouts and cozy cardio. Maybe you've heard of this, maybe not, but we're going to talk about it today. All right, so cozy cardio. I actually found a video of this girl on TikTok and I was like I love this.

Speaker 2:

And let me tell you, everything's relative and I want you to be mindful of each and every individual's experience. Okay, there are some people out there who are adrenaline junkies. They want to jump out of planes, they love running, they love, like you know, the rushes they get. So like the idea of sitting and doing yoga or something cozy and more gentle might make your skin crawl and that's okay. And with that, I even encourage you maybe to experiment in that realm a little bit to get out of your comfort zone, right, but some of us including myself, as somebody who would really push hard just to push their limits, as a female trainer and as somebody who didn't grow up being athletic, I wanted to challenge my boundaries. Well, after getting diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder. My energy levels aren't always the greatest, so, and they're unpredictable, right. Despite having a healthy lifestyle, some days I just wake up feeling like garbage Sometimes. What would you know, maybe a couple years ago be an okay workout, I like end up crashing and needing to recover. So having the option for cozy cardio or a lighter workout is wonderful. And I think that reminder of you know you're not being lazy, you're not taking the easy way out. If this is what you have to do and that's something I drill into my clients' brains as well this is sustainability. Fitness is about sustainability, showing up consistently, even on the hard days. You know you don't have to be an Olympic athlete. You don't have to. You know, hit a PR every single week. You don't have to be killing yourself every single week. Sometimes you can just get through the workout a week. Sometimes you can just get through the workout, and I think that's important to lean on days in certain phases in our lives, even if it lasts months, right. So it's important.

Speaker 2:

And the cozy girl cardio really got me. So on this TikTok video, this girl, she was in her house, she had a little walking pad. Okay, she had her TV with the little backlights. You know how they can change colors. I think it was pink, right? So, itbey, the lights were out, she stirred herself up a nice little drink and like a cute glass and she put on a walk through Hogwarts YouTube video, which I love. Like it looks like you're walking through Hogwarts whoever created this video and let me remind you you can do this with anything, like you probably look up walking through anywhere real places, fake places there's probably a ton, so you can do some really cool stuff and she just walks and I loved that. That was cool.

Speaker 2:

Like I think that's so fun and a different way to get your body moving, especially if the weather's garbage maybe, maybe you don't have any parks near you, you don't feel safe walking outside, you don't want to leave your house, like there's a lot of different reasons that you could resort to this and it may feel like you can't get something in, but this is a perfect way to get something in and I don't know about you maybe it's a girl thing, but I feel like when things are aesthetic and pretty, I actually just put a quote about this in my Tina's Tidbits recipe email, because I usually put a little thought or quote in there as well and it was talking about like everything you should do. You should add, you know, aim for aesthetic if it enjoys you, if it enjoys you, if you enjoy it. I don't know what that was and I feel that way Like it's not all the time, sometimes I just got to get stuff done, to get it done. But if I take that like a little bit of extra time to maybe make my outfit cute or, you know, I get the cute glass to put my coffee in, like little things like that can really elevate your day, your mood and your experience. And I do believe aesthetic is important. I think you're more likely to adhere to something or enjoy something if it's pretty and you like it right. So I think that's important with that.

Speaker 2:

So the Cozy Cardio is cool. I love it, I endorse it, we're all about it. I actually had one of my husband's friends he loves Fallout, which I love Fallout too but he messaged me and I was like because he posted a video, I'm sorry. I messaged him. He posted a video of a guy doing it. I don't think they labeled it cozy cardio, but he was like walking through the video game map and I was like that's so funny that they do that because I was telling him about the Hogwarts one with the girl and I'm like, so there's probably so many different ones out there, um, and I just think it's, it's a cool idea and I love that, like both genders are partaking in this, like everybody's partaking, um, so we have that. But another thing too is the soft girl workouts, which is, um, I didn't dive into this one as much, but it's more like body weight stuff and I've actually been noticing a trend of this in general. Um, like soft CEOs. I've been seeing that as well on YouTube and I love this because it's actually for girls, mostly girls, because I feel like more girls tend to be this personality type, but not saying that guys can't experience this by any means.

Speaker 2:

But like the highly sensitive people, I actually have a whole podcast episode on this that I did with Grace Kirkley. She is a highly sensitive person, hsp and coach, so you can check that out if you want to learn more about it. But I'm an HSP, someone who's highly sensitive. You're pretty much. You're very empathetic. You can get overstimulated really easily, you like. Like the more gentle types of things, like I've always been a grandma. That's just who I am. I like the quiet.

Speaker 2:

Sometimes I'll partake in like you know the opposite of that, but usually it will drain me right, um, I'm all about like the nature, the walks, the soft girl stuff, right, calm, cool, like, think of like a nice little cottagecore life, right, and again, we can't always partake in that, but like, that's what I tend to lean towards. It it energizes me. That kind of stuff energizes me and it's funny because I always just thought I was introverted. But the more that I'm learning about myself I'm not necessarily shy or don't like talking to people, it's more so. Certain things that are more loud or socializing with people will drain me. So and I always thought I was like, do I just not like people? And that's not what it is. It's more just like where my energy goes and I think that's where the soft girl anything comes from. It's gonna be soft girl.

Speaker 2:

Workouts might be using lighter weights, more body weight stuff, slower pace stuff, being gentler with yourself. You know we're not, you know doing burpee boot camp, being screamed at and against not saying that's wrong, but somebody who is a highly sensitive person might not respond very well to that. They might get drained from that and they're just like no, I hate this. And then they're taught that they hate working out, they avoid it and then their health suffers. And I think that's something that's important is, that I continue to try to do in this space is that there are different methods of working out. So by me talking about soft girl workouts and cozy cardio isn't saying that the high intensity stuff and the heavy lifting is bad and that people still shouldn't push their limits and try it out at least. But if you keep trying it and it's literally draining you and working against you, why would you do it right, unless you're really on a mission? You're like I'm going to break this habit. You know, lean into what is going to work and I think over time, even if this is just an entry point for you, like maybe you've tried to work out in the past and nothing works, and I have that with a lot of people too, depending on their situation. We have moms with multiple kids like the thought of them doing anything more than like a 10 minute workout from the house makes them not want to do it at all and they'll drive them crazy. So sometimes that entry point into movement needs to be that.

Speaker 2:

Even me when I was forced into from my hip injury. Like I loved lifting. I was, you know, dead lifting over 200 pounds, squatting 200 pounds, like I was in my heavy lifting phase. I felt really good and then I got this injury and I had to stop, like cold turkey. I kept trying but I was in so much pain Like I couldn't do anything. So I was like, oh my god, I was like I guess I could walk. And even so, I was like, oh my God, I was like I guess I could walk, and even walking at certain distances would aggravate my hip. And I was like, okay, I got to do this in like yoga and it was weird at first, but I was so happy that I had something to lean on.

Speaker 2:

And that is the beauty of fitness is that there really is movement for everybody. Um, that's why I kind of get mad when people get shamed like, yes, there might be instances of people who are slacking, like if you know deep down that you can be working harder and you're frustrated you're not getting results, yes, you need to kick your ass into gear. But people who like are just trying to get into the space or maybe they're struggling with an injury or a disorder or an illness and they feel like they like fitness doesn't have a space for them. That bothers me. Like you can do anything like just start, I don't care who you are, um, you could be missing limbs, you could be 90 years old, like there is still a way to improve your health and work on your health. Um, even if it's super small, right, even Even if it's a super small choice, but it's still better than nothing and I'm just such a huge advocate of that. So, anyways, that was pretty much my rant of the podcast today.

Speaker 2:

Definitely look it up. If you want to look it up on TikTok or YouTube, check out Cozy Cardio, soft Girl Workouts, explore Soft Girl, like anything, because there's a lot of different stuff and I kind of like to see the different approaches, right, because I feel like business and working out is so like you know, just do it, yell and sweat and burpees and jumping, and then you know to see the other end of the spectrum is really interesting. So let me know your thoughts. You can actually send me a message. Here in the podcast description there should be a link to send me a message.
