Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Tea with Tina, your favorite podcast, where we talk all things health, fitness, lifestyle and maybe a little bit of tea gets spilled. We chat all about this in a super casual environment. So grab your beverage of choice, sit back, relax and enjoy. Relax and enjoy. Hey, friends, popping in for an impromptu podcast episode Every now and then I'm like what do I talk about this week?

Speaker 1:

And it's funny when messages get repeated to me and I hear them in more than one place. I take that as a sign to pay attention and that's the universe's way of saying hello. Here's a message for you. Listen to it. So I'm going to relay the message that I heard and I'm going to share it with you because it is perfect for the holiday season time. If you're listening in real, real time, or maybe you happen to visit this as the holidays are coming up.

Speaker 1:

At the time of recording, it's just the beginning of November right now and we are in the holiday season, halloween just happened, we're bracing for Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year's and in the fitness world, this is a really challenging time for people and I could tell you I struggled last year, not so much with the fitness routine, but it was more of a mental state, and I think that's where everybody is, and the side effect of it is you don't feel like doing anything, right? Um, there's a lot of drain, and I've actually made podcast episodes about these topics, um, more specifically, but it's about that drain of these expectations that maybe we don't want to do. You know, I feel like old holiday traditions have sort of evolved and it can be kind of hard to transition those out, depending on wherever you're at in your life. Right Like, I moved across the state from my family in Pennsylvania and it's a long drive home. It's like five or six hours and the holiday traffic and just getting there is horrendous. So we do meet up for the holidays but it's never like actually on the day. It's usually in between Thanksgiving and Christmas or maybe a little bit after in January, which is fine. But it's so different from when everybody was so close by and we would just all meet up and it was just so easy.

Speaker 1:

And a lot of you may be going through that. Maybe you cut ties with certain people in your family and it was for good reason, but you still feel a little sad, you can't carry through a tradition, or maybe you feel like you have to uphold a tradition and you're afraid to speak out about it. You feel like you have to buy presents for everybody you know and you don't really want to, or you're stressed out about money. There's so many things that rile us up for the holidays and I also will say, not a huge fan of being blasted with the Black Friday. I think it might be a little bit better this year, I'm hoping, but last year in the year of 2023, it seemed like they really took things to the extreme, like 20 billion emails everywhere. The deals weren't actually that good, but they were just blasting everybody with stuff.

Speaker 1:

I've noticed that people are attending. A couple people, especially people I respect in the fitness space, are doing some Black Friday deals earlier, like September October, some Black Friday deals earlier like September October. There's been some really great deals that I've picked up on in different companies that seem to be in like September. So it seems like they're kind of avoiding the Black Friday. I don't know, but I know I get personally burned out on that. Maybe that's just because I'm like a highly sensitive person and I'm just like this is too much, I can't, but that I'm kind of like uh, about even myself with presenting offers, I always try to really think it through and be like, ah, like, do I really want to throw another offer at you guys? So anything that I do is very carefully calculated and chosen and I try not to burn you guys out and give you something that's actually meaningful and actually worth the discount, right, um? So? So we have all of that, which actually I am in the works of finalizing a program. Just a little tidbit here my holiday hustle, which I usually run every year, but I try to refine it each year and this year I am refining it even more to make it even better and more fitting for the holidays, where it's not necessarily a weight loss program but a program to get you through the holidays and support you through the holidays, so it can show you how to maintain and adapt health and fitness routine even during your busiest times. To show you how to do that. Because if you can create a fitness routine and maintain it during the busiest times, most stressful times, then when things are easy, it's going to be a breeze. And then you're going to go into the new year and it's going to be like super easy, all right, you're gonna have that momentum going. You won't have the extra 10, 20 pounds from the thanksgiving and christmas parties and feasts and leftovers. So it'll be all good, but so stay tuned for that. But the message. Getting back to the message that I heard, which I don't know necessarily how to frame this, I don't know exactly what I want to call this episode, because it's more of a concept than a concrete thing. But I will say I have a business coach and she shared this message with our group. And then I heard this also.

Speaker 1:

I don't know if you're familiar I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with the Yellowstone series the 18, is it 1899? I don't remember which one. It was the 1800s one. I can't remember the year specifically. Off the top of my head it was sometime in the 1800s, because I know they have like 1923 and there's 18 something. Well, the guy with the white hair and the big fat mustache, he plays in a lot of Western movies. Again, I cannot think of his name. He has the really deep voice. He does like the Ford truck, the Ford truck voice. You're gonna know who I'm talking about. Oh, sam Elliott. That's who it is Sam Elliott. He is in that series and he made something that stood out. And I watched this series probably about a year ago and I remember my husband was laughing and he was like you need to follow this advice and like it really stuck with me. So it was funny. When my business coach talked about this it kind of like re-sparked that in my mind. I was like, oh, oh, yes. So what this was about is the 1800 series with Yellowstone is they're doing the Oregon Trail. It's actually really interesting. It shows their journey to the Oregon Trail and Sam Elliott is one of the guys who is supposed to guide you to the Oregon Trail. It's a very treacherous route, very uncharted territory and American Indians and stuff.

Speaker 1:

And there was a point where the people were kind of panicking. And there was really point where the people were kind of panicking and there was really no good decision, like one way, you know, you had consequences. The other way you had consequences. There was one that didn't really stand out to the other and something he said was whatever you do, make your decision and stick to it. Make your decision and stick to it. Make your decision and stick to it. And that did hit me right. And that's the same thing with my business coach was talking about. She was talking about the same thing, actually in relation to the business world at the end of the year, which this will relate to your fitness journey and life in general. She was saying you know, as a business coach, what do you want to do at the end of the year? Do you want to relax for the holidays? Do you want to put your head down and do a ton of work? Do you want to more, like, reflect and kind of just be in the middle? What do you want to do? Whatever you decide, make your decision and follow through with it, stick with it, and I think that's important. This is important really any time of year, because I see this happen a lot.

Speaker 1:

I don't think many of us think about what we're going to do. We kind of let our emotions dictate and outside forces dictate how we're feeling and what we're doing, and we don't actually sit down and think about things and consciously make a decision to do it. And I think we would be a lot mentally better off. For instance, you know, maybe you think you're supposed to be really good, like you were dieting and you lost a lot of weight, and you're like, oh my God, I have to keep this diet going, or I'm in the middle of a 75 hard like, but I really don't want to like deep down. You're like, I don't want to do do that. I just want to have fun with my family. I'm burned out from the year. I want to relax so I can start fresh in January.

Speaker 1:

If deep down in your gut that's what you feel, then make that conscious decision to do it and follow through with it and stick with it, because then once you know that, hey, I'm choosing to rest, there's not really. It releases that guilt. It releases that what if? Because you know that you made the decision, you weighed your options. Everything has consequences, every choice has consequences, every choice has benefits. You made your decision. And also I want to reiterate, because my business coach reiterated to me is that there is no bad decision and this goes for life in general.

Speaker 1:

I mean, whatever decision you choose, whatever choice you choose, a lot of the times like sometimes there might be a less favorable decision, but in this instance I mean I feel like it'll be clear, it's very individualized, so maybe for your unique situation there'll be a clear worse decision and a clear better decision. It's kind of whatever you want to do, the are one is going to weigh, outweigh the cons, um, but again, it's person to person. I can't say that everybody should sit on their butt and relax, because some people genuinely might benefit from pushing their boundaries a little bit. Um, that's why I say a lot with with navigating the holidays. You know, someone saying yes to two slices of pie might be a win because they've been severely under eating, they've been barely hitting 1200 calories and they need that food. And then for somebody else who's a binge eater and they can't lose the weight, saying no to that second slice of pie might be a win. So it's very unique to your own situation and really, at the end of the day, only you can make that decision for yourself.

Speaker 1:

So I need you to do some internal work, look inside yourself, listen to your intuition a little bit and think what do I want to do? What is your goal for this holiday season? Take a few minutes, maybe, even if it's on your ride to work, just shut off everything and think about it when you're driving in the car, go. Okay, you know what are my goals this holiday season. Do I want to push towards something? Am I maybe just in maintenance?

Speaker 1:

I know a lot of my clients are in maintenance, and that's again not saying it's right or wrong, but that allows you to kind of stay the same body weight wise. But you're working towards fitness goals and you're still maintaining a routine which I think a lot of lifestyle people would benefit from. Some of you may just literally take a break, which again is okay. You don't even want to deal with the gym and stuff, but you're still going to like, in the back of your mind, be mindful. I would not encourage saying screw it and just eating whatever you want.

Speaker 1:

But you know, just being more mindful about things. But you're just going to kind of take a break and then again, some of you may have specific goals. I just had a client sign up with me the other day and she is kind of just starting a cut and we're gonna you know, we're gonna do that sustainably throughout the holidays. Okay, so it's all person to person, all situation to situation. At the end of the day, it comes down to what, what works for you in this moment. Pick the decision and stick to it.
