Speaker 1:

On today's episode, I'm going to be sharing something that I have been using in my own life. That has been very helpful, and I think this is helpful for those of you to get over growth humps. Right, because we may grow as people and our lives change, but maybe the way we conduct our lives do not, and that's when we feel stuck and cluttered and messy because we don't change our systems. I know that sounds kind of like businessy and in a way it is. For those of you who may be business owners or just enjoy business stuff, I will say for me personally, there's many systems within my business that worked up until a certain point and now, with growth and a different structure, these systems need to change. But there are not just systems in business, there are systems in your life. This could be the routine of what you use to clean your house, do laundry, meal prep, grocery shop? What routine you use to meet up with friends? Do you have to actually schedule a once a month hangout with them? Maybe the routine you use at work to get ready for work? There are systems everywhere and once you start to notice that, you can realize that you can get efficient. And I believe, especially in this day and age where it just seems like we have 100 things to do all the time, systems is going to be your best friend, right, and I think we're seeing this shift now.

Speaker 1:

I feel like, if we go back to just the internet era, right, like let's, let's just go back to when the iPhone came out, because I think that's when things sort of started to change 2007, 2008, you know, facebook started to get big, big social media happened. Uh, the traditional old school internet began to look a little bit different. Then we started to use the phone and technology more to support our everyday lives. We have our whole life in our palm with our smartphone and we run a lot of things out of it. And I think there was a point up until recently that, um, like this, the systems that did work. When things first came out, it was good, like as someone who was a blogger and built a website, like self-taught, it was relatively easy, but then things started to get more complicated as more features came out, as they updated um, like internet speeds, and video became more popular. It wasn't just like writing articles. So now we have we need faster computers and you need more download speed and you need more storage space, because video, video, video and things just got a little more complicated and I don't think the systems were there to support it.

Speaker 1:

But I do believe, as of recently, with the help of AI, chatgpt is my best friend. He literally is like I just will spitball things off of him or if I have a thought I'll say, hey, can you tighten this up a little bit, clean it up a little bit, make it not sound all over the place, and he helps me. So he's a great person to bounce ideas off of and like, like he has helped me get organized. So I think with the rise of ai and then there's just some things that things that were clunky and kind of pushing their boundaries have gotten a little bit more efficient now. It's like the technology has kind of caught up with the everyday consumer and it's not just so scattered anymore. Like it obviously still is out there, but there's more systems that make things easier to handle this like new age of technology, if you will right. Um, and again I think this comes up in our lives.

Speaker 1:

So one question because the title of the podcast episode, one question that I ask myself all the time to make my life extremely simple, is what would this look like if it were easy? Now, I did not come up with this. Uh, there's a great man named jonathan goodman. He is, uh, mainly in the fitness space, but he's kind of branched out into business and he just wrote a book. So if you want to check him out, j-o-n. Goodman, jonathan goodman. Um, he has said this question and it really has helped me. Like what would this look like if it were easy?

Speaker 1:

Because I'm someone who tends to over complicate things. Like my brain just likes to naturally go to the path of most resistance, like naturally it'll just pick the weirdest way, like my husband will always be. Like why did you do it that way? There's a way, easier way, and I was like I literally didn't even think of that. My brain just went to this option. So I'm always on a journey to kind of optimize what I'm doing and, again, I believe we all should do this, especially if you want to grow and better yourself, because if you're stuck in the same old thing, you're stuck in the same old thing, right and again. This can apply to so many outlets in your life. So I encourage you to even just set aside a day and really think, like when you go through your day, think about how things get done and be like how could I make this more efficient? And it could be something as simple as doing a time audit and like timing yourself right, like if you fold laundry, set a timer, see how long it takes you, you know, can you beat the timer? A lot of the times we like to beat the timer, like, oh, I can get it done faster than 15 minutes. Watch this, you know, and it makes us be more efficient.

Speaker 1:

You know, with your meal planning, I always teach my clients. Can we, you know, set aside maybe an hour where you're going to, literally, you're going to have a process. You're going to look through Pinterest. You, where you're going to, literally, you're gonna have a process. You're gonna look through pinterest, you're gonna look for recipe ideas. All right, now you're gonna block out your breakfast, your lunch, your dinner, your snacks. You're gonna write them all out. You're gonna figure out the calories and macros for them, like what portions you would need. Then you make your grocery list and, boom, you're no grocery shopping, um.

Speaker 1:

Now the meal prepping part. That's gonna vary person to person. Maybe you um decide to meal prep everything that day. Maybe you're someone who kind of just preps a couple things, like maybe you pre-chop some veggies, you marinate your meats, um, and then you throw something in the crock pot. I'm kind of like a prep as you go kind of person. Uh, breakfasts I've been kind of prepping ahead of time, but everything else I kind of just make as I go. Uh, because sometimes if you cook it ahead of time the taste is meh.

Speaker 1:

But you know, you can see there's a process there, maybe for working out. You're going to have a set program in mind of what you want to do and then you schedule it in your calendar, just like a doctor's appointment. So it's planned out. You know what you're doing each day. You know what moves you're doing each day. So that way you have a system. And once you have that system, at first it's a little bit more extra energy up front, but I'm telling you. Then it becomes thoughtless.

Speaker 1:

You go into the gym. You um, you will just go, okay. You open up your app. It's it's leg day, all right, this is what I'm doing. I'm doing this, xyz, and you save all of that mental energy of oh my god, what machine should I do? Someone's on that? Someone's on that. What do I do? What do I do? What do I do? Oh my god, what machine should I do? Someone's on that? Someone's on that. What do I do? What do I do? What do I do? Oh my god, I'm just gonna go on the treadmill. You save all that energy and you actually put it into the workout where you can properly focus on your form, give enough energy into the workout.

Speaker 1:

So you see how that happens, because we do have a lot of energy drains throughout the day that I don't even think we're aware of, and that that's why we ultimately end up making poor decisions. And it's not necessarily that we end up making poor decisions. It's usually the easy, quick choices are not as great for us. Right, like run through the drive-thru, like I love the convenience of it and I'm so glad that we have that ability. But if you do that all the time you're going to get like crappy, lacking nutrient food that's going to leave you hungry and have a ton of calories for no nutrition, and then you're going to gain weight right, but you're paying the trade-off of that quick, tasty food for the convenience, right? There's always a trade-off, there's always a balance for everything. So this really is a process and don't expect it to happen overnight. But, again, take some time.

Speaker 1:

Because this has been happening with me and I think you'll know like, for me, things felt a little bit more chaotic, a little bit disorganized. I'm like what's going on here? Then I started looking at things and I'm like, okay, I need to change the way that I'm doing things. And I always encourage that. We're always kind of self-aware of our lives. We're constantly doing little check-ins with ourselves, seeing what is going really well, what can you improve? Right, and we're just gonna be more efficient and tighten up on things. And I'll give you a perfect example.

Speaker 1:

So for me, teaching a group class. A typical person might not realize what goes into creating a group class, right? You think, oh well, they're a trainer, they just come in, they throw on some music and they just have fun. You know, you get to work out. You're getting paid to work out. Everybody's having a great time and, yes, it is that. But to have a great class there's actually a lot of planning that goes into teaching group fitness.

Speaker 1:

I handp pick my playlists based off of the crowd, uh, based off of the vibe, like the energy of the class. I make sure that I'm not playing the same songs all the time. I'm trying to add new ones and research the right ones. You know you want to make sure it's friendly for everybody. There's no swearing, the beat's good, maybe some throwbacks, maybe some newer stuff, um, for the actual programs, again same thing. You got to make sure, uh, the structure is right, you're not doing too much arms, too much legs, too much abs. You got to take into account any injuries, all skill levels, um, equipment that's available, timing, uh, you know, again, trying not to do too much of the same thing, switching it up, making things fun. So there is a planning element to it.

Speaker 1:

And with the playlists I was getting a little stressed out because I would kind of make the playlist last minute. Um, and I do it through Spotify and the way Spotify is made. I would queue up songs, so I'd have them in my queue so they would just play through. But what I decided to do to make it a little more efficient is I actually decided to create a playlist for each class I have. So that way I had before I had a master playlist. I was like these are class workout songs. Um, you know, there was like two or 300 songs in there, um, and I would just hand pick them. Now I have a specific playlist for each class that I can kind of add the songs into each week, so then that way when I go in, I could go oh, this is my playlist already done for Tuesday, play it. My playlist for Wednesday is good. I don't have to worry about, you know, queuing up songs. I just sit down, pick the songs I want for each class and it's done. And then that way I can look for the next week and go this is what we listened to. Let me switch it up. Here's how I can make that different, right? So, um, yeah it, it really.

Speaker 1:

You know, it's something stupid that you think, oh, this is just random, but it was a time drain for me. Um, you know, I was doing it last minute. It was creating chaotic energy. Now, it's one of those seamless things, that if I take the time to do it ahead of time, it will save me that mental drain. Right, I was definitely having a lot of mental drains, and it comes down to systems.

Speaker 1:

So always ask yourself, what would this look like if it were easy? And a lot of the greatest people do when they're making inventions, when they're creating new plans, when they're making inventions, when they're creating new plans, when you know, and sometimes again, the answer we think it's going to be this complex thing, this we have to create this whole new thing. It has to have a billion steps, when in reality, sometimes it's simple. And I think that's also an issue is we shouldn't always look to what we can add to our routine, but we also need to look at what we can take away, what we need to do less of, because through our lives we collect these new habits, these new things, and we do more, more, more, more, more, but we forget to let go of the things that no longer serve us, right? So so again, it's a constant evaluation, a constant balance. You know, and maybe we lose things through a more efficient system. Right, you're losing something through that more efficient system. It streamlines it, it cuts things away. You kind of chop back some things and then maybe we add in some good, take away some bad. You set some boundaries. You're not going through the drive through as much. You're not scrolling on your phone as much. Maybe, instead of one hour or two hours of Netflixflix, you're only going to do one hour. So then that frees up your hour to maybe read, unwind before bed.

Speaker 1:

There's just so many opportunities, um, throughout your life and unfortunately I can't give super concrete um examples for this. I'm trying to give some generic examples because everybody's life is different and I think that's probably why everybody struggles, because there's not necessarily like a template to follow. It's not like, hey, uh, if you want to stream a lot in your life, this is exactly what you want to do. Uh, if you do that, you get the people that are like I wake up at 4 am and run 20 miles every day and that is why I'm successful. It's like, no, what it really is, that they found something that works for them. Right, so this requires some inner work you to look at your life and your systems and say what would this look like if it were easy Family, friends, work, personal life, love life, hobbies look at it all Fitness, nutrition, you know, mindset. Look at it all and think is look at it all and think is there somewhere that you, you know, pick the one that needs it the most and streamline a system? Think what would this look like if it were easy.

Speaker 1:

Hop onto chat gpt, it's free. Um, maybe brainstorm with him, say, hey, I'm struggling with fitness, what's a way I can streamline my routine and you can even type out what you're currently doing? You'd be surprised. I like the way that chat gpt is almost like a human google, if that makes sense, like google anymore is just like ads you have to like, really look to get good search results on google. So chat gpt is more so like old, old school google, but the answers are conveyed back to you as if you were speaking to a human, which I really love. So you can ask it anything that you would type into Google, but he'll give you back like an actual, legitimate, well thought out response. You don't have to do any searching through all these articles and click on all these web pages and do that. That's what. That's what I would recommend. You know, play around with that and just brainstorm, brainstorm on your own, see, see what happens, and hopefully that'll make your life easier and a little more streamlined. All right, you put your energy towards things that you want to do, to grow and even just relax and enjoy your life, all right. So that is my thought for today, especially during this busy holiday season when I'm recording, so I hope that that helps you out a little bit.
